ARE YOU OFFICIALLY AFFILIATED WITH DISNEY OR SQUARE ENIX?
PROJECT: Magic Kingdom Hearts is currently a fan-hosted event. However, it has received vocal and in-person support from many Disney cast members and several staff members and voice actors at Square Enix, including Quinton Flynn (Axel) and Paul St. Peter (Xemnas); Justin Cowden (Hayner) and Ray Chase (Master of Masters) attended the California branch of the event in person, and Mat Kishimoto, the North American Project Manager for Kingdom Hearts, even gave us his blessing. You never know what the future might hold!
WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THIS EVENT?
PROJECT: Magic Kingdom Hearts serves two purposes (1) to raise awareness of the need to have Kingdom Hearts represented at the Magic Kingdom in some way (2) to have a fellowship event for Kingdom Hearts fans everywhere, complete with epic activities, prizes, and once-in-a-lifetime memories.
WHEN IS THIS EVENT TAKING PLACE?
The event is on September 20th, 2019, on one of the Mickey’s-Not-So-Scary Halloween nights. Participants must arrive at the Ticket and Transportation Center by 3:00. The event runs from 3:00p.m. until midnight.
WHAT IS MICKEY’S NOT-SO SCARY HALLOWEEN?
It is a special event night that runs from 4:00 until midnight on select nights in the fall. Magic Kingdom attendees can dress up in costume and trick-or-treat around the park. Events include a special Hallowishes fireworks spectacular, a Disney villains dance-and-meet-and-greet (including villains not usually out at the parks), and a Boo-to-You parade, along with many special character photo opportunities.
For more information on this event, check out the event page on Disney’s website.
WHY HAVE THE EVENT ON A MICKEY’S NOT-SO-SCARY HALLOWEEN PARTY NIGHT?
During the fall, Disney hosts special event nights where park visitors can trick-or-treat while dressed in full costume. We’ve picked this time because it’s the one and only time Disney will allow anyone over age 14 into the park in a costume. This, in turn, gives us the chance to fill the park with some outstanding Kingdom Hearts cosplay!
WHAT WILL HAPPEN ON THE EVENT DAY?
We go to the Magic Kingdom and have fun, Kingdom Hearts-style! Along the way, there will be many optional, but awesome activities that you can participate in to win prizes, so be sure to check out our Schedule of Events!
All attendants will meet at the Ticket and Transportation Center at 3:00. Each participant will be given an event lanyard. We will board the monorail or boat at 4:00 and enter the Magic Kingdom together.
I WANT TO ATTEND! HOW DO I SIGN UP?
It's as simple as Sora's smile! Just click on the Register page and fill in your information in seconds. Once tickets for Mickey's Not-so-Scary Halloween Party become available, we'll email you so you can purchase a ticket for September 20th 2019.
WILL I HAVE TO DISCLOSE ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION IN ORDER TO ATTEND THIS EVENT?
When you register, we ask for your first and last name (which is for our use only and never disclosed), your e-mail address (so we can send you exciting updates!), and what nickname you want to be listed as on the website guest list (to keep your real name private), but it doesn't get any more personal than that. Ultimately, the only person who can disclose any personal information about you is yourself. We're not Heartless, after all! We respect individual privacy.
HOW MUCH DOES THIS EVENT COST?
In order to participate in the Magic Kingdom Hearts event, you must purchase a Mickey's Not-so-Scary Halloween Party ticket. Information on Disney's ticket pricing has not yet been released for 2019. However, last year tickets cost about $75 for anyone over the age of 10. Attendees should also consider the cost of parking (about $25), as well as any hotel, food, beverage, or souvenirs that they might want to purchase. The overall expenses can be lessened by eating before the event (thus saving on dinner costs), riding with a group of friends (to split parking costs), and sharing a hotel with friends (to split the hotel costs).
With that said, all PROJECT: Magic Kingdom Hearts-exclusive activities are 100% FREE!
WHERE CAN I PURCHASE MY TICKETS?
We highly recommend purchasing your tickets online through Disney's website. You can purchase your Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party ticket for September 20th here.
DO I NEED TO PURCHASE MY TICKET ONLINE?
We highly recommend that you purchase your tickets online as soon as they go on sale. Occasionally, special event nights--and days at Disney in general--will sell out. Having an online-purchased ticket guarantees that you'll get in, whereas you might be unable to purchase tickets at the kiosk on-site should the park be at full capacity that evening. We don't want anyone being left out!
DO I NEED TO PURCHASE A REGULAR PARK TICKET IN ORDER TO ATTEND THE MAGIC KINGDOM HEARTS EVENT?
No. The Magic Kingdom Hearts event is taking place during a Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween event night. This special Halloween event requires the purchase of a special, separate event ticket that will let you into the park as early as 4:00.
WHAT IF I WANT TO BE AT THE PARK ALL DAY AND NOT JUST FROM 4:00-MIDNIGHT?
The Magic Kingdom Hearts event will not be taking place until 3:00, when we will meet at the Ticket and Transportation Center. The park will let us in at 4:00. If you--personally--want to be at Disney all day long, you will need to purchase two tickets--one regular ticket for the day, and one special event ticket for the Mickey's Not-so-Scary Halloween Party that evening. Understand that you will not be able to wear your costumes in the park until 4:00 when the event starts, however, should you choose to do this. In regards to the Magic Kingdom Hearts event, there is no reason for you to be at the Magic Kingdom any earlier than 3:00, unless you want to be.
DO I HAVE TO STICK WITH THE GROUP DURING THE EVENT?
Nope! We will all enter the Magic Kingdom together. After that, it’s pretty much a do-what-you-want fest. If you want to tag along with some old (or brand new!) friends, go right on ahead. If you want to go it alone, that’s a-OK. Whatever you do, just make sure you have fun (and don't forget to participate in some of our special events!)
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR TO THIS EVENT?
You have two options: (1) a Kingdom Hearts shirt, along with necklaces, wrist-bands, etc. (2) a Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy, The World Ends with You, or Disney cosplay.
If you plan to cosplay a Disney character, please choose one that appears in the Kingdom Hearts games. Exclusive Kingdom Hearts versions of the characters are preferred (such as Donald, Goofy, or Mickey).
You may cosplay a Final Fantasy or World Ends With You character at this event, but only if they actually appear in the Kingdom Hearts series. We would also prefer that you wear whatever outfit that particular character wears in the Kingdom Hearts series, though this is not mandatory.
If you have any questions about whether or not your costume would be appropriate, feel free to contact us.
MAY I DISNEYBOUND TO THIS EVENT?
Absolutely! Disneybounding is fine as long as the outfit is clearly tied in to Kingdom Hearts. Please wear something distinct, like Sora's necklace, carry a Keyblade or Paopu plushie, wear Roxas' wristband... Be creative! Basically, wear something--or carry something--that is an iconic symbol of the series itself. Think: If a someone saw my outfit right now, would they connect it to Kingdom Hearts? Then Disneybound to your heart's content! (Or maybe wear something from that awesome Super Groupies Kingdom Hearts III collab)!
MAY I COSPLAY AS MY OWN ORIGINAL KINGDOM HEARTS CHARACTER?
We're all for original characters and creativity! However, if you want to cosplay your original, fan-made character, make sure they are very obviously tied to the Kingdom Hearts series. Wearing an Organization XIII coat, for example, would be one obvious visual tie. When considering your original character's costume, please observe the general Disney costuming rules as well (located right below).
WHAT IS DISNEY’S COSTUME POLICY?
Disney has released slightly stricter costuming rules as of the past couple years (check out the full list of rules here). While most Kingdom Hearts cosplays fall within these rules, take note of them none-the-less:
No scary/gory costumes, as the event is themed with children in mind
All masks must have eye-holes where the eyes are clearly visible
Nothing worn over the face (Deep Dive cosplayers, take note)
No large costume parts that will obstruct traffic or hinder other park attendees
No realistic weapons
No explicit costumes
No capes below the waist (armored form cosplayers, take note)
No costumes that drag along the ground
No costumes with sharp points
Costumes with multiple layers are discouraged and may be subject to additional searching; however, they are not denied access to the park
CAN I BRING MY KEYBLADE, ETC. TO THE EVENT?
Absolutely! But keep these things in mind:
During the Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween event, the park does allow visitors to carry in fake weapons and props. However, there are a few restrictions: (1) weapon must not look realistic or have a sharp point (2) weapons/props must not obstruct park traffic or hinder other attendees (3) weapons/props may not be made out of metal or glass unless they are very small.
In the past, other Kingdom Hearts cosplayers have had no trouble getting their Keyblades into the park. If you have doubts about a prop weapon you wish to bring, feel free to call Disney and ask an event specialist cast member. Also, take into account that carrying around a weapon is somewhat burdensome and may restrict your ability to ride some of the park attractions. Ultimately, that decision is up to you.
WHAT IS THE CODE OF CONDUCT FOR THIS EVENT?
The event rules are simple, and we want to keep them that way:
1. Respect yourself: Don't do anything you'll be ashamed of later.
2. Respect others: Treat others the way you want to be treated. Respect Disney World's policies. Keep a kid-friendly mind-set. This is Disney World, after all. Make sure that your actions and language maintain an all-age-appropriate spirit. Anything that you do in the park will reflect on the entire Magic Kingdom Hearts team, as well as on the series itself. We don’t want to cast the franchise in a bad light to the kids, parents, cast members, or managers at Disney. That would be reversing the entire purpose of the event. To put it simply: if it would be misrepresenting the series in some way—don’t do it.
3. Have fun: This event is meant to be a joyous occasion for all ages!
WHAT IF SOMEBODY WANTS A PICTURE OF ME/WITH ME?
According to Disney: "All guests may dress as their favorite character, but may not pose for pictures or sign autographs for other guests."
Above all, we want to respect Disney World's rules. This particular rule is in place to prevent guests from confusing regular guests in costumes with official Disney characters and leading to possible liability issues.
In past events, it has not been considered inappropriate to take quick selfies or passing photos with other park guests. It is also perfectly fine to conduct photoshoots in the park with other Kingdom Hearts cosplayers.
A good rule of thumb is: If a Disney cast member approaches you on this issue for some reason, just be respectful and courteous about their requests and do as they ask. These rules are in place to keep everyone safe and happy, after all!
I WANT TO COME, BUT I CAN’T AFFORD A TICKET. WHAT SHOULD I DO?
As much as we would love to pay the way for every Kingdom Hearts fan, we just don’t have the funding at this time. Our recommendation: Save up as little as $10 per month for 8 months, and you'll cover the cost of your ticket!
I WANT TO COME, BUT I LIVE TOO FAR AWAY. WHAT SHOULD I DO?
This event isn’t taking place until September 2019. That gives out-of-state (and out-of-country) attendees a chance to make plans, save money, hop in their Gummi Ships, and set course for the Magic Kingdom. We've even had attendees fly in from as far away as Mexico for this event!
I LIVE IN CALIFORNIA. IS THERE A SIMILAR EVENT AT DISNEYLAND THAT I CAN ATTEND?
We're so glad you asked! Check out the Keybearers Alliance--the California branch of PROJECT: Magic Kingdom Hearts that hosts annual Kingdom Hearts gatherings!
IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I CAN DO TO BE PART OF THE EVENT, EVEN IF I CAN'T ACTUALLY ATTEND?
Several eager fans are hosting their own mini celebrations with friends, or simply wearing a Kingdom Hearts T-shirt on the event day (September 20th). Be creative! Find a way to celebrate Kingdom Hearts on September 20th and send us a photo. We'd love to post it on our Facebook page!
